Q & A

1.Q:What is the counseling environment and setting like?

A:There are three individual counseling rooms with different settings.   Generally, there will be comfortable chairs and a quiet space when counseling. The counselor will sit across from the student and talk in a relaxed atmosphere. The sessions generally last about 50 to 60 minutes. Students can express their feelings and thoughts comfortably during the session.

2.Q::What kind of people go to the counseling center to ask for help?

   A:

(1)Those having life adjusting questions or issues. For example, those wanting to change relationships,        worried about flunking classes, problems about love and relationship, etc.

(2)Having uncomfortable emotional feelings such as having insomnia for a long time, emotional depression, anxiety for some unknown reasons, loneliness for no reason, feelings of helplessness, etc.

(3)Desire deeper self-knowledge, such as want more self-autonomy, want to know alternative ideas for the future, increased self-knowledge, having problems about your own abilities and values, etc. If you have any of the questions listed above, you are welcome to come to the center and talk to us.

(4)Pressures from emergencies such as typhoons, earthquakes, car accidents, bereavement, parting, being flunked, etc. You can come to the center for help if you have any of the problems listed above.

3.Q:Do those people come to the center voluntarily or by force?

A:Most come voluntarily. Some of them come just to take advantage of the counseling, while some of them really need help from the counselor. Only a minority of students come because the home teacher or drillmaster thinks that they need help. No matter how or why they come, the teachers from the center give the best they can do, so many people come voluntarily the next time.

4.Q:Does the counseling center offer only individual counseling?

A:Aside from individual counseling, the center will hold small group counseling. If you are interested in the topic, you can apply for the activity. Still, there is class counseling or lectures, and the topic will be interpersonal communication, love relationship, career guidance, emotional management, etc. The class can see what you need and apply for it.

5.Q:Will my home teacher or classmates know I am attending counseling?

A:According to the confidentiality agreement, the contents we talk about will all be kept in secret; however, if the students try to hurt himself/herself or other people, the content will not fall under the confidentiality agreement.

6.Q:How does one reserve counseling service?

A:In principle, one just has to go to the counseling center to fill in your personal information in person, then the center will see the problems you have and your time and arrange a suitable counselor and appointment for you. If it is not convenient to come in person, you can arrange an appointment by phone call at 766-3800 #25101~25105, or e-mail to counseling.npue@gmail.com to connect with the center, and we will arrange your meeting according to your problem and available time.

7.Q:Is night or noon available for personal counseling?

A:The center is open from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday for counseling. Since there is not any counselor shift at noon, personal counseling will not be available. But if you have any emergency, you can contact the center and there will be professional people to solve your problem.
